Arts & Cultural Development offers a range of services to artists, arts organisations and the broader community including assistance with fund, advocacy, promotion and professional development opportunities. The Unit also works closely with community groups, partners and individuals in developing ways to strengthen community participation and access to arts and cultural initiatives in the Ballarat region and manages a small grant allocation as part of its Arts Development Program.

BAA was instrumental in developing a website called Arts Atlas which acts as a portal for artists and arts organisations in our region. It offers free artist profiling, event and venue listings and other avenues for participation in the arts.

Our annual awards and grants program gives critical financial support to local artists to help them take the next step in their career. We present performance opportunities, exhibitions, workshops, and masterclasses throughout the year with, and for, our alumni and the community to raise funds and share artistic expertise that enlivens our culture. Through high-profile events and activities, Ballarat Arts Foundation also contributes to the growth of a sustainable arts industry in Ballarat.

Ballarat Heritage Watch Inc. was initially formed in 1998 as Ballarat Citizens for Thoughtful Development, in response to changes occurring in older residential areas of Ballarat. Ballarat Heritage Watch is committed to maintaining the best aspects of Ballarat’s distinctive character.

Activities

Maintain a watch on planning applications, Council actions and similar issues. Provide practical advice and support to residents and groups. Prepare submissions to Council and other bodies on current applications or other issues which have heritage ramifications. Make representations to MPs, Government Ministers, Council etc. Write letters to newspapers and advocate for heritage protection via the papers, television and radio.

Our Aims are:
- To provide a focus for those concerned with the preservation of heritage buildings, streetscapes and parklands in the City of Ballarat
- To be a resource for individuals concerned about planning matters in the municipality of Ballarat
- To provide a collective body to communicate with local and state governments on planning issues and regulations to protect streetscapes and promote well considered development
- To provide an educative and publicity role on heritage issues.
